What is a Wrinkle Reduction Treatment?
When we talk about Wrinkle Reduction Treatments we are in fact talking about Botox – Botulinum Toxin, also known as ‘BTX’. This is a protein compound which when used in tiny amounts can freeze muscles.
The FDA approved the use of Botulinum Toxin in the dermatological world in 2002.
With all the procedures and technology available that can make you look years younger in a day, BTX is now considered one of the most minor and less intrusive cosmetic procedures a person can have.
How long does it last?
It is not permanent. Many presume that once they have received BTX they won’t need it again. On average the results last between 4-6 months for most people. However, it can build up slightly over time, thus needing it done less frequently.
What is Botulinum Toxin used for?
Many people don’t know and would be surprised to learn that BTX has uses far beyond cosmetic purposes.
BTX is an effective tool for reducing sweating. Millions suffer from hyper-hidrosis (excessive sweating) therefore, can be injected into areas with over-active sweat glands. These include armpits, scalp, hands and feet, which can provide up to 201 days relief from hyper-hydrosis.
Botulinum Toxin is an approved treatment for an overactive bladder. Clinical studies have demonstrated that a BTX has the ability and significantly reduces the frequency of urinary incontinence.
BTX has been known to ‘fix’ people’s smiles, correct people with Strabismus (cross eyes), treat migraine sufferers and to treat neck and shoulder spasms. It can be used to decrease scalp-sweating, correct a droopy nasal tip (called nasal-tip ptosis), fix brow asymmetry, decrease skin oiliness, minimise the appearance of pores…” The list goes on and on.
How does BTX work?
When the skin is damaged from the sun, it is occurring from the surface. BTX works on the muscles beneath the surface making the muscles that give the appearance of wrinkles stay still. It works on wrinkles caused by muscle movement, it does not work on wrinkles caused by sun damage.
