What is Photo Ageing and why is it so important to wear an SPF?
Photo-ageing is premature ageing of the skin caused by repeated exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UV) primarily from the sun, but also from artificial UV sources.
Sunlight (Solar or UV Radiation) is the single most important factor in skin ageing. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation accelerates and amplifies all major ageing signs.
What are the signs of Photo Damage?
The deterioration of sun-exposed skin can include, wrinkling, roughness, altered texture, discoloration, mottled hyperpigmentation, epidermal thickness, collagen degradation (loss of volume) and dermal vessels
What you can do to help protect the skin?
Sun avoidance is of course crucial to avoiding Photo Damage. A regular application of SPF on a daily basis, will provide protection against UV radiation.
For the damage that has already been done, there are treatments available to help restore skins’ vitality and function.
There is Topical Therapy – this is the daily use of Vitamins, Alpha-Hydroxy Acids and Hydrators. Enzyme Reactivator Treatments can also have a rejuvenating effect.
Light treatment such as the Dermalux LED Light Therapy also has major benefits on damaged skin. It is the leading, non-invasive treatment that harnesses the power and beauty of light for visibly radiant, rejuvenated and refined skin.
Delivery of these ingredients is important so as to reach target cells and tissues quickly without degradation.
