Prepare, Protect and Perfect Your Skin for Summer

By June 28, 2019 No Comments

After the cold of winter and the unpredictability of spring, the prospect of warm sunny days and balmy nights is enough to make anyone smile.

But summer can be tough on your skin so before you dive into your bikini and head for the beach it’s worth taking a few simple steps to prepare, protect and perfect your skin. You’ll look better for it and you’ll be a whole lot safer in the sun.

Here are our expert tips for summer skincare:

(1) Adapt your skincare routine

So, just as we suggested making some changes to your skincare routine in spring, you need to make a few more adaptations to suit the summer weather.

Gentle foaming cleansers and lightweight moisturisers will keep your skin hydrated without looking greasy or clogging your pores.

We love Rationale Photodynamic Light Activated Day Cream SPF15 that harnesses the power of light to rejuvenate skin and boost Vitamin D levels, while protecting against damaging UV rays.

(2)  Protect Against the Sun

At this time of year damaging UVB rays are at their strongest and skin can burn quickly. Make sure you use a skin block with an SPF of 30 or higher such as SIf you have fair skin you should avoid tanning altogether as a sun tan is a sign of cellular level damage. If you do get burned, talk to a skincare specialist to help your skin repair and prevent long-term damage wherever possible.

(3) Choose a tinted moisturiser

You should avoid a heavy foundation in the summer as it can look greasy and clog pores.

Instead try a tinted light moisture cream with SPF that will do the job of two products as well as providing protection from the sun. Our customers love Heliocare Color Gel Cream Light SPF50.

(4) Exfoliate

To give yourself that healthy sun-kissed glow exfoliate as part of your skincare regime. Don’t scrub your skin with a harsh exfoliator as that can strip it and leave it raw and vulnerable. However, a gentle exfoliator that sloughs away dead skin cells will help to improve the look and condition of your skin by revealing fresh new cells.

Gentle brushes, polishing cloths and scrubs can provide effective exfoliation. Alternatively, treat yourself to a professional treatment, such as our Fusion Facial, to brighten up a dull complexion. It combines the power of Vitamin C with LED light therapy to refresh and rejuvenate skin.

(5) It’s not just about your face

When thinking about your skincare don’t just focus on your face. Summer means showing off more of your body so take a bit of time to prepare your skin, including exfoliating and moisturising your body.

If you are waxing, give you skin time to recover from exposing it to the sun as the follicles are vulnerable to irritation. Using an after-waxing product containing glycolic and salicylic acid can help to prevent a build-up of dead skin cells or ingrowing hairs.

(6) Remember that good skin is an inside job

No matter how many delicious products and treatments you luxuriate on your skin, it cannot possibly look its best if you don’t eat a healthy, balanced diet and drink plenty of water. You will feel better and this will show in your skin.
